You can make a real difference!

Ireland still has one of the highest reported rates of death by suicide in the European Union with young males under 21 being most at risk. Our experience is that the actual rate is much higher, and almost no school or community in the country is untouched by losing someone to suicide.

Through our awareness and prevention work with schools and colleges all across the country we are able to provide resources for young people, their friends, families, teachers, coaches and many more concerned people so that they all have the vital information they need to detect the early signs of pre-suicidal behaviours and help to prevent another tragic death.

You can help us in our vital, life-saving work, and amaze yourself with one of the most thrilling experiences you can have, by joining our Sing Against Suicide Experience.

I WANT TO JOIN

Why should I support youth suicide prevention?

During 2018 our facilitators will work, face to face, with up to 18,000 secondary school students in 192 schools around the country. We are the only youth-orientated national suicide prevention charity and we work just for young people up to 22 years of age. You can work with us to support our services and your school community by helping to fund our dedicated team of facilitators who provide our Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention talks for schools, colleges and interested youth organisations.

As you can imagine providing suicide awareness and prevention information directly to young people in a safe and supportive environment is critical to helping to reduce the frighteningly high rates of youth suicide in Ireland. With your help we can increase the number of schools so that we are able to bring these vital services to more schools, colleges and youth organisations.

Through our awareness and prevention work all across the country we are able to provide resources for young people, their friends, families, teachers, coaches and many more concerned people so that they all have the vital information they need to detect the early signs of pre-suicidal behaviours and help prevent more young deaths.

As part of our outreach work YSPI provides :-

  • training resources to schools, colleges and youth organisations
  • in-class talks to transition year and leaving year students
  • easy to follow suicide prevention programmes
  • 24/7 crisis information services
  • research and attitude surveys amongst young people

About Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland

Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland, a registered Irish Charity (CRA 20070670), is one of the only national charities working specifically to raise awareness and prevent suicide amongst the young people of Ireland. YSPI has only 2 full-time employees and all our other administrators including our Trustees are volunteers who donate their time. As of October 2017 the total cost of administering the charity was 11% so 89% of all funds raised can be used to support our vital work.
